Escape to Los Angeles
readers, this winter in chicago has just been BRUTAL. I haven’t been able to get an outfit post in weeks because it’s just been so cold and so snowy and terrible. Needless to say - I am VERY ready for spring and spring clothes. But I got a sneak peek of spring weather this weekend with a fast trip to Los Angeles to visit my sister.
Before leaving, I dropped into Nordstrom Rack to see if I could find something to wear in the 60-70 degree temps. I found this adorable sheer button-front sundress on sale for $8! Perfect - and perfectly paired with leggings, doc martens and my jean jacket. I wore this on my trip to my favorite perfume shop, lucky scent (scent bar). I had so much fun at the Scent Bar - I tried many different scents and took home quite a few samples. I had to buy a full bottle of Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin - it’s my new go-to.
I just love the fresh food in LA. I enjoyed some amazing oysters at Water Grill in Santa Monica with some dear friends and also got the most flavorful satsumas at the farmers market. DELICIOUS!

I’ve been wanting to do a weekly wrap-up post feature for a while now. I hope to make this a thing - let’s see how I do*!
The holidays and shopping are fun for me. Did you buy anything fun for yourself? I bought myself some Dream Cream from LUSH and some new black skinny jeans from Macys.

*Not well so far apparently - hah! I intended to post this on Friday.
Sweater Dress and shopping in Chicago
Shopping during the holidays can be a little much for me (I get crazy bad anxiety in crowds), but I wanted to support some local shops on Shop Local Saturday. So I ventured out in this warm H&M sweater dress I’ve owned for ages and this lovely TwoJ’s Fencer Jacket and my super comfortable boots. Shopping was a huge success - I got a few locally made letterpress cards, and a few small gifts for my family.
What local/small businesses are you shopping at this year? I recommend the great businesses listed on my Logan Square post. In the next few days, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite etsy and online shops!

90’s Vintage Plus Size Daisy Print Dress
It’s so hard for me to call 90’s clothes “vintage” since that was my teenage era and well, I just can’t admit that I’m vintage. But I am - I know. And I had a dress exactly like this in 1995 when I was a sophomore in high school. I loved it and I used to wear it with a flannel and my green suede Dr. Martens.
That old dress bit the dust many years ago, but I found this great version while shopping at Lovesickvintage. Owner Britteny has a fantastic collection of VINTAGE PLUS SIZE CLOTHES - I know, the holy grail, right? I highly recommend checking out her etsy site and for those in Chicago, stop by Market Days at Township on Sundays.
I’m going to relive my teenage years in the most adult way - by going to brunch and a few coffee shops. A perfect sunday for this outfit. I snuck in a photo of my sweetheart S - wearing his sunday favorite outfit.

The Devil’s in the Details
Accessories can take any outfit from “just something i threw on” to an actual pulled-together look. I used to be annoyed that sometimes the only thing I could ever find in a store was accessories, because they carried no clothes in my size, but the reality is that it’s allowed me to amass quite a collection of really cute accessories. A good outfit has a mixture of colors, patterns and textures in the clothes and the accessories should also reflect that mix.
If nothing else, having some key pieces - a weird necklace or some big earrings that you can throw on that will upgrade an outfit is worth even a small amount of money.
And other thing - for those of you that wear glasses, they can be additional accessory that is fun to change up. Over many years, I’ve added new pairs to my collection.
This skirt you’ve seen before, but I wanted to show you how I’ve paired it with some new accessories (and a new top!)
