Weekend Geometry

My weekends have been so busy lately (my life actually has been crazy!). I feel like I can’t really ever get caught up on all the things i have going on.

While out last night visiting the super cool Space Oddities shop and dropping off some new LastCraft candles and tarot decks for them,  I had an amazing tarot reading by Sarah Lorraine aka esoteriaofone. One of the biggest take-aways for me from the reading was that I need to CHILL.  So part of this weekend is me just taking some time for myself to refocus.

What do you like to do to engage in self-care? I like to turn off my electronic devices, read, take baths (I’m obsessed with LUSH products) and just sit and think. I have a lot to think about with my 35th birthday in a week and my wedding in about a month!

I’ve been very thankful for my Gwynnie Bee account lately as it provides me with lots of pretty clothes without me having to deal with finding the time for shopping.  This gorgeous geometric print dress is so much fun to wear on a summer day.  It’s a little on the short side, and I would wear leggings with it if I were out for the day. If you’re not a member of gwynnie bee yet - really I can’t recommend it more highly! It’s free the first month and they keep adding more and more unique brands. Feel free to use my link to join if you’ve been on the fence, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Palm Sunday

This palm-print Dorothy Perkins dress ticks almost everything I want in a summer dress.  It features an adorable but not over-the-top print, wide straps (I can wear a bra!), perfect knee-length (I can wear bike shorts under to prevent chub-rub), breathable fabric.  It’s just perfect.  The only thing it doesn’t have is pockets, but I’ll let that go because the rest of it is so fantastic.

It’s a great plus size summer dress and I wore it on a hot sunday to run to the farmers market to buy some gorgeous fresh veggies and flowers. The photos are inside because my partner S who usually takes my pics is out of town - I think they still turned out well!

I hope you all had a beautiful weekend (and a long one for my US readers).

Happy Anniversary ModCloth - and a $100 giveaway!

Last June, I sat in a room filled with plus size bloggers listening and talking to folks at ModCloth about rebooting/ growing their plus size line.  I was thrilled at the possibility of more plus size clothing options, but wary - we fat folks heard this before. And despite talking about it online and among ourselves, it seemed that a lot of retailers hadn’t been listening.  But ModCloth wanted to know our thoughts - they did the research and knew that 88% of plus size women agree that they would buy more clothing if trendy options were available.

Thank you to ModCloth for listening to us.  I have been absolutely thrilled with the products they have produced this past year.  And it’s only going to continue. Recently, I featured some of their wonderful bridal and bridal party plus size items in my recent Femme Wedding post

For the ModCloth Plus size Anniversary, I’m giving away a $100 ModCloth gift certificate.  To enter: Follow InTheThickofIt and Reblog this post and include a link or image of your favorite piece in the ModCloth Plus Size CollectionWinner will be chosen at random from reblog responses on Monday 6/30/2014 at 10:00am CST and posted on Thickofit.com

siouxsie and the banshees sunday

Today I got dressed up for a photoshoot that didn’t happen with a local pal and I figured since I was looking cute, I might as well share it here.  This outfit is nothing revolutionary - but it’s how I dress when I’m just feeling ME.  These plus size skinny jeans from Old Navy are way too short on me really, but I love pairing them with tall heels to make my legs look a million miles long. It was a windy day, so my hair is wind-blown but I sort of love how it adds to the rocker look. And this siouxsie and the banshees shirt is one I got from an ex a million years ago and I’ve treasured it ever since.

Animal Print and Stripes and Brunch

Sunday brunch in the neighborhood calls for a summer spin on a favorite outfit. These new bermuda shorts from the plus size line at target are just the right length for me to feel comfortable (I don’t care for short shorts or capri styles).

Of course I also had to try out my new animal-print glasses from SelectSpecs.  These adorable frames with lenses were under $20!  What a bargain!!!  I highly recommend them for those of you who wear a lot of glasses and like to have variety.
